TOB Strength of Show By Group

For some time we have been testing various scenarios for analyzing and ranking the upcoming week's shows. Our goal is to assist those TOB fans who attend shows based upon the complement of competing bands rather than following a specific band week to week. While additional work may be required to perfect the relative strength feature, we are providing the preliminary work as an aid for self-analysis.

We consider two factors when ranking the relative strength of a show.

First is the number of bands competing in a group. More bands will result in a higher strength score.

Second is the current rankings of the competing bands in their group. The rankings are factored in such a way that closely clustered bands will achieve a higher strength score. For example, a show with two bands ranked 9th and 11th would have a higher strength than a show with two bands ranked 1st and 20th. This is based on the philosophy that a show with closely ranked bands would be more competitive.

Unranked bands are assigned a ranking in the 50th percentile for the purpose of calculating the Average Rank (all).

Our intent is to have some fun and perhaps generate some discussion on the various newsgroups and forums.
