What a great Webpage!  The photos and enthusiasm are just GREAT!  Good luck tonight at the competition and I am VERY glad that the powers that be saw reason and you all are getting to stay to see the band get its first place trophy

I really enjoyed the letters and think its terrific how members of "rival" teams post good words about the Blue Wave!

Keep up the good work, guys and gals!

Thanks for the nice mention of Susquehanna Twp's 5th place finish on your home page.  I'm told that this is the highest placing ever in TOB Group II by a Chapter 6 band.  Our kids did the "monster" show we had been looking for and we knew we could move up into the top 5 if we had done that. Thanks for your support of another Chapter 6 band.

Your page has been informative, timely and personally I like it better than the main TOB page.  They should take a lesson from you on information organization and format. Thanks for keeping us all up to date all season long.  A job well done.

Three cheers for Mr. Martin for respecting the wishes of the band members, parents and friends in granting permission to stay for the entire ACC event.  Don't let Mr. Martin down guys.  Return the respect in kind by making a commitment to arrive at school Monday on time!

Again, thanks to Mr. Martin.

I agree with everyone else saying that we should stay at acc's to support our band.  We made it to ACC's and I think we should be able to stay and show we appriciate it.  Its only fair.  All the other bands are staying to support their band why can't we?

At band rehearsal on Tuesday, November 10, our plans for ACC's were announced and we discovered that we would not be staying for the entire show.  (most people reading this already know about the plans so i won't waste any more space on them) I know that we WOULD be returning very late on Sunday (Monday morning, actually) if we stayed through the awards, and some members or runners find this unacceptable, but shouldn't it be THEIR responsability to get themselves home at a reasonable hour, rather than making it MY responsability to get myself home just because i want to stay and support my band?  We've done that in the past people who have a commitment the following day can find some other means of transportation that will better fit their schedule. What makes this competition any different?  Is it the fact that we will have visitors in our school on Monday, and it has been agreed that we can't have band members tired in classes?

First, i would like to say that most students have at one time or another survived with three or less hours of sleep, and it isn't fun, but we can get by.

Second, i would think that our visitors might be impressed with a group of students that can stand up for their extracurriculars even if it means giving up a whole day of their time.

Third, most of us will be tired in our classes no matter WHEN we get home.  That's just a fact of being a student.

If it's really that much of an issue, why not change the seating arrangements of the busses...we're taking four of them, and there's no reason why one or two can't take the parents and kids who want to go home early, while the rest take those of us who want to stay.  We should have at least voted on the subject.  The band members did not know what was going on until the decision had been made.  We're not five years old any more  our opinions should count just as much as those of the adults...especially since WE'RE the ones doing the performing. We've had a great season and we're going to give an excellent performance on Sunday.  Afterwards, we need to be IN the stands cheering for our drum majors/band front captains during the awards cerimony.

This is my senior marching band season -- my last competition -- and I am NOT  going to leave it early.  That sounds like something any countless number of loser bands would do.  We are NOT one of those bands...we are MIDDLETOWN.  We made it this far and they didn't! To anyone reading this, remember...one night of lost sleep won't kill you.

I will be in the stands rooting for my band. SO SHOULD YOU!!!!!!!

Hello everyone,

I think this 1998-99 season is going very good so far. We have done alot of work so far and have made alot of improvements throughout the season. Do not let what happened at Cedar Cliff Comp. put us down, that was a big mistake by the Judges I think myself!! We did an Excellent job at the Cedar Cliff Competition this last saturday. Chapters is in two days and I think if we just think about the show and how great this show means to us and if we just go out and have fun perfoming we can make it to ACC's two years in a row~!! So lets go out and give them that Blue Wave PRIDE that we have! Good luck everyone and I will see you at the field on Saturday to give them a great show!!! Good Luck~!!!

Sincerely,

First, I would like to say to the "Blue Wave Fan" that I feel very offended when I hear that someone who was a member of the Blue Wave think that we were the middleschool.  We have put in so much work and effort into this years show.  Doesn't it show when you see that we have won High Music Award and First Place in many of our competitions?  Just because we didnt have a smile on our face as of that moment doesn't mean that we weren't having fun.  I know that I had fun.  "one more try?"  we deserve a lot more credit than what you give.

I would like to thank everyone, once again, for a good season.  Yes, it is almost over, but Chapters are yet to come and possibly ACC's.  Since this Friday is the last football game for the seniors, I want you all to know that I'm going to miss all of you and good luck to the future.  Come back next year.

The band looked *really* sharp at the homecoming parade and game last saturday, in their fresh sharp new uniforms, and I just loved the hats!! Very dignified, to say the least!! :)  I even went to the game *just* to see the band (i was never that interested in the football ) and I was so miffed at the people around me on the home side, just talking and jabbering on while the band performed, I didn't get to hear all that much of it :( but it looked good! Since it was so cold and windy, I traveled over to the visitor's side so I could sit in the sun and get warmed up, and the band sounded so powerful, the just *blasted* across the field and even over the loud west parryian football supporters and practially drowned out *their* band! talk about *impressive*, _especially_ when they played Sweet Child of Mine (that was always a favorite). So, talk about wow wow wow! :)

I was reading the comments left on the site by a Blue Wave band fan from 10-24-98.

I have the extreme pleasure of working with the kids in the band each week. These kids put forth a great effort each week. They work hard and take great pride in their performance. They don't need the negative comments from someone who obviously hasn't taken the time to even see the kids in action at a football game or a competition. I would not trade my time with these kids for anything. They are a special bunch . And they deserve all the praise and respect we can give them. Blue Wave keep up the great work and hold your heads up  high you have done one heck of a job this year , and it will only get better.

Hi guys,

I have just one comment to the letter that was posted by a former band member who commented on our performance at the Halloween parade, they must be blind!  After reading that message I felt insulted.  The part of the letter concerning the bandfront was interesting.  Considering we had only learned the routine a couple of days before.  It was not our fault that it wasn't together.  Practice makes perfect and that's just what we plan on doing.  At the halloween parade most of us had fun.  We didn't care about how well we were doing because we were saving that energy for the field.  Personaly i think were doing a great job and I'm very proud.  And I would like to give a special thanks to Mr. Martin for sticking with us!

Due to scheduling conflicts, I have not yet been able to see the Blue Wave Band perform on the field, at a football game or at a competition. I was VERY excited to be able to go to the Middletown Halloween Parade and see the band perform and march like it was intended to. I even had my fiance excited about seeing the band, after I had told him about how much fun the Halloween Parades have always been for me.

HOWEVER, upon seeing the band pass by, I first mistook it for the Feaser Middle School's marching band, and I was confused as to why I could recognize a few of the members as being high school students. The bandfront was entirely out of sync, most of the members were only pretending to "march", especially when the parade had stopped moving momentarily. Looking over the faces of the band, if any of them had tried to smile, their faces would have cracked and fallen off.

After the REAL Feaser Middle School marching band passed by, playing their song proudly and having fun at the same time, I realized that the first band WAS the Blue Wave Band, and was pitiful in comparison to band members years behind in skill. I was incredibly embarrased, and my fiance was less than impressed, and for the first time I was ashamed to have been a graduate from the marching band of Middletown. The Blue Wave Band didn't even play a note while they were stopped at this point except for the drums beating away less than enthusiastically.

The Homecoming Parade and Game are coming up this Saturday, and I have managed to convince my fiance to give the band one more try, and I hope that the band will not let this alumni down again. When I see on these pages, and read in the newspaper about the high scores and awards the marching band wins at competitions, I find myself wondering if the band is REALLY that good at all, or if everybody else is just that much worse.

Come on, Blue Wave, you have never disappointed me before, please don't start now. --

WEBMASTER'S RESPONSE:
Although I do not normally respond to comments received, in this instance I find it necessary to express my thoughts.

From one band alumnus to another, I find your comments to be not only immature but an embarrassment to every Middletown band member who has ever proudly worn blue and gold. When criticism is presented in a constructive manner it is beneficial to the recipient. Your comments, however, are self-centered, petty, and mean.

You state that you went to the Halloween parade to "see the band march and perform like it was intended to." The marching band's role, in my opinion, is to represent the high school by supporting the football team at games, entertaining spectators at half time shows, competing in band competitions, and performing at civic functions such as Memorial Day observances. I had no idea that dressing up in silly costumes was what the marching band was "intended" to do. Further, to question their abilities and motivation based upon the one event where they are encouraged to relax and have a good time exemplifies your narrow-mindedness. To question the level of their talent and the veracity of their recent competition achievements is an insult to every band member, as well as to the many fine bands and musicians against whom they compete!

The band is in the midst of one of its strongest seasons in many years, building on a series of successes the preceding three years. They face fierce competition week after week, and maintain a dizzying schedule of performances and practices. I'm sure they will survive the fact that they did not meet the standards set by you and your fiancee. The judges they face on Saturday nights are far more critical, and certainly more qualified!

If you have an issue with the fact that the band did not play in your presence, I suggest you call Mr. Martin at the band office (948-3347) and express your displeasure. It is he who decides when the band will play, not the members.

As to the fact that the band has been granted a reprieve, and will be afforded "one more" opportunity at the homecoming game to meet your lofty standards, please do all of us a favor and stay home!

Regarding your confusion as to the band's identity, at the head of the band is an honor guard. They carry a banner. On the banner is clearly displayed the words "MIDDLETOWN AREA HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND", not "GEORGE W. FEASER MIDDLE SCHOOL". If you cannot observe those words on a banner I wonder how dull your other senses have become!

Finally, I note that you lacked the integrity to include your name with your comments. I, on the other hand, will proudly sign this message.

Hey Guys,

Congratulations on your first place last week, and also on the music caption.  Drum line, where's your first place?  Good luck for the rest of the season, hope to see the performance at least once.

The kids looked sharp and sounded great.  A lot of work is needed to keep on top, but I think our kids will be up to it.  Our new uniforms should complete the package, and really give the kids something to look forward to.  Trumpets, low brass, woodwinds & percussion all came together last night, and meshed perfectly.  The band front also did well, and their new outfits really look terrific.

This is sweet to see M'town on the web, Janelle, and Kris Reinhold, represent.... Also, keep playing that song ..."The Horse" by Cliff Nobles, it is the sweetest football game song in the history of Marching Bands, so keep playing the horse, and good luck, this year! Rock on Raiders!
